Are you and your partner having trouble communicating?

At Insight Northwest Counseling, we have a team of licensed marriage and family therapists, as well as mental health professionals, who are equipped and ready to help individuals and couples find resolution and help in their relationship.

Even if you are not facing these difficulties in your relationship, you and your partner could still be ready for couples counseling.

If you are wanting to heal your relationship from past hurts or pain, or build upon an already healthy & strong partnership, we are here to support you. Seeking therapy in your relationship proactively, or before there is significant lasting damage, is incredibly beneficial. Strengthening your communication and receiving tools to improve your relationship early on in your journey together, will encourage you to have a long-lasting and healthy relationship.

Insight Northwest Counseling provides couples counseling to the state of Oregon and we are eager to help you in your relationship. We offer our couples therapy services both online and in person. In our current climate, online counseling provides you with the benefits of couples therapy from a safe and comfortable distance. Whether your reason for online therapy is pandemic related, or just a personal preference, online counseling is a helpful, safe and accessible option for you. We offer our online relationship counseling through telehealth; a safe, confidential, and secure platform to meet with you virtually. Each appointment will be a live video session that allows you to connect with a licensed therapist in the same way you would attend an in-person session.

Couples therapy looks at the history of your relationship and what has happened previously to get you to where you are currently. In couples therapy, you do a lot of “unpacking” of past experiences and looking at the root of the problems.

Through healing the damage of the past, you are better able to handle the challenges of today and be stronger in your foundation.

If you are currently struggling with these issues in your relationship, you may benefit from couples therapy:

  • Past traumas or betrayal

  • Lack of trust in the relationship

  • The consequences of infidelity

  • Life transitions

  • The impact and devastation of addiction or substance abuse

  • The absence of being romantically stimulated (not “in love” anymore)

  • Lack of intimacy both physically and emotionally

  • Poor or damaging communication habits

  • Mental health challenges or the impact of mental health disorders (bipolar disorder, anxiety and depression, eating disorder, etc.) within the relationship

  • The effects of grief or loss in either individual’s life or as a couple

If your marriage or relationship is facing hardship, it is important to seek help. And even more important to know what method of help to seek. Whether it’s marriage counseling, couples therapy, sex therapy, or family counseling, there are options and resources readily available to you. If you are seeking therapy near you, tap into the resources you are already in touch with. Seek referrals from friends and family, ask your primary care practitioner or utilize the tool that we all have available at our fingers; the internet.

Benefits of couples therapy include:

  • Healing betrayal and damage

  • Processing through infidelity and trust issues

  • Strengthening communication and conflict resolution

  • Discovering the root causes of current conflict

  • Repairing and restoring intimacy and sexual connection

Our Approach

Our approach to couples counseling is much like our approach to individual or family counseling. We recognize that each relationship has its own set of challenges that are unique to that particular partnership. It’s important that we listen intentionally to your background as a couple, look deeply at the issues you are having today and collaborate in finding the best way to heal and strengthen your relationship. We want to offer a third party who can not only serve as a mediator between the two of you, but who can offer tools to you individually and as a couple that will help you work together better as a team.

Each of our experienced and licensed professionals bring a unique set of skills and strengths to the couples counseling process. They are equipped with tools, techniques, and couples therapy exercises that will encourage growth and healing in your relationship. They will listen to each party, give them the opportunity to speak freely and safely to one another and the therapist, and offer suggestions to the couple that they can carry outside of the session.

We listen intently and compassionately to both people in the relationship to make sure each of you feel safe, heard, and valued. We help you process the past hurts and challenges, in order to set you free of them to move forward in a healthy and stronger way. We want you and your partner to leave your experience with Insight Northwest Counseling feeling like a united force with the ability to work together outside of the therapy session. There are many types of therapy and methods that we use to accomplish all of that.

Some of the most used techniques are:

  • Emotional Focused Therapy

  • Gottman Method

  • Solution Focused Therapy

  • Family Systems Therapy

  • Narrative Therapy

It has been shown that in addition to joint therapy, individual therapy can be extremely useful in helping couples improve their relationship. If each individual in the relationship is working independently on themselves and their growth, they will be better able to work with one another. They will be clearer on their wants, needs and desires for what they want to achieve in the couples therapy process. As each individual does the work to better themselves as a separate entity, they will make realizations and experience personal growth that will aide in the couples therapy journey.

At Insight Northwest Counseling, we offer addiction and recovery services, medication treatment, marriage counseling, couples therapy, family therapy, individual therapy and psychiatric medication management. We have a team of professionals who specialize in all of these areas and are ready to support both of you in person and virtually, depending on your comfort level.
