Individual Counseling
Have there been significant changes in your life?
Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, or immense stress?
Are you struggling in your relationships?
Are you facing substance addiction, in recovery or have a loved one who is struggling?
Do you feel like you need the support of talking to someone?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, you have come to the right place.
Insight Northwest Counseling provides individual counseling to people in the state of Oregon, both in person and via telehealth therapy.
Sometimes the stress of life alone becomes too much to bear alone. If you are feeling out of control or that your stress is more than you can manage on your own, the help of a counselor may be the right choice for you. And that is more than okay. It is important to recognize when what you’re experiencing goes beyond your abilities of coping on your own. It shows great strength to be able to acknowledge that you need the assistance of a therapist, and even greater strength to seek out that help. At Insight Northwest Counseling, we try to make that process as simple and accessible as possible. We are available to you to answer any questions, provide individual therapy to you to assist you in your healing and meet you wherever you are – both in person and virtually.
Life can be inherently difficult. There are challenges we all face in our lives that make it difficult to carry on with ease. In a culture where we have been told for generations that it is best to handle these challenges on our own, it may seem difficult to seek the help of a professional. But often, facing the struggles of life, mental illness and addiction require the help of a counselor or other mental health care provider and depriving yourself of that will only make those challenges more unmanageable.
Mental health care is highly stigmatized in our society and we recognize that. One of our primary goals is to eliminate that stigma and normalize the process of seeking therapy.
We want you to feel safe, comfortable, and supported in your journey to mental and emotional health and we do everything in our power to achieve that.
It is common to feel embarrassed or anxious about seeking the help of a therapist. There is a toxic school of thought surrounding mental health care that creates a sense of shame and inadequacy. While our current generation and those to come are working hard to shatter those stigmas, we understand that you are most likely touched by those feelings of shame and embarrassment. Seeking the help of individual therapy is as valuable and necessary as any other healthcare you may be receiving, and we treat it as such. It is important to us that you know that not only are you not inadequate or “less than” for seeking help, you are actually incredibly self-aware and strong.
Our Mission
We understand that each individual is walking a different path. Everyone has their own story and set of challenges and we treat our services as such. Our approach to counseling is to collaborate with the individual to find the technique and treatment that best suits them. Rather than treating your counseling as a one-size-fits-all situation, we aim to cater to your unique issues and challenges. We listen to you, advocate for you, and support you in the ways we think are best and feel best to you. Our treatment is individual-based and completely crafted around your story and your experiences.
We want each individual working with us to feel safe, supported, comfortable and seen. We provide an environment free of judgement, prejudice and exclusion. It is our mission to welcome everyone with the same warmth no matter who you are or where you are coming from.
There are many reasons in which one seeks the help of a counselor.
Some of the most common situations we treat in our individual counseling services are:
Depression
Anxiety
Chronic stress
Stress of life changes
Addiction and recovery
Trauma
Grief and loss
Substance abuse and recovery
Bipolar disorder
Personality disorders
Relationship struggles
Sexual violence trauma
Beyond the struggles listed above, there are many other complex struggles that individual therapy can be of use to. It’s also important to know that there are absolutely no requirements for seeking that help. There are no prerequisites or specific struggles you must be facing in order to receive the help of individual therapy. If you are looking for support in handling the challenges of your life in a healthier way, or simply seeking an unbiased opinion and listening ear, individual therapy may be the perfect option for you.
No matter what the reason, we feel that seeking individual counseling at Insight Northwest Counseling is a great choice. We have an incredible team of licensed therapists who can offer you the care you need. Each of our team members have a specific set of skills that helps you in a distinct way – and they each specialize in different areas, as well. You can visit our team page to learn more about each of our providers and the areas in which they specialize.
In any situation you are facing, we have a provider for you.
Our Therapy Practices
There are a wide range of therapy techniques that we are trained to practice in our counseling sessions. We acknowledge that every method is more or less effective for each person, and we use our training and specialization to navigate the process in a way that is best for you. We all learn as much as we can about you and your background and what you are facing today and collaborate with you to create a plan to heal, cope, and move forward in the healthiest way possible in your life.
We utilize evidence-based and trauma-informed techniques such as:
Solution Focused Therapy
Narrative Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Family Systems Theory
Internal Family Systems
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Motivational Interviewing
Somatic/body focused techniques
There are many types of psychotherapy used to assist and support individuals through their individual counseling process and it is our job and passion to find the best techniques to use with you.
There is absolutely no set amount of time for how long you should be under the care of a therapist. We feel that every individual is a constant work in progress and we are all growing and evolving as our lives do. There may be periods in your life where you are experiencing a more extreme level of stress or trauma and need the help of therapy to navigate through it. It may be true for you that once you are through that more difficult season, you can go back to navigating life without the extra help. You also will receive tools that can help you handle those same stresses on your own in the future. While that is the case for some, for others therapy is a life-long journey that ebbs and flows with the experiences of your life. That could mean seeing your therapist weekly for extended periods or seeing them less frequently but still on a regular basis over the course of many years.
In therapy, the goal is to give you the tools to better cope with the struggles you are facing, as well as healing from trauma or struggles you have faced in the past. The hope is that you experience growth and development in all areas and leave the course of your therapy process feeling stronger and more capable of facing the challenges you are experiencing in your life. We want you to feel comfortable, heard, capable and safe through the course of your therapy and hope that you walk out our doors feeling all of those things and much more.
In addition to individual counseling, Insight Northwest Counseling offers other services such as family counseling, couples counseling, children and teen counseling, addiction and recovery treatment and psychiatric medication management. We are pleased to offer all of these services both in-person and online via telehealth. If you are seeking any of these services alone or in addition to individual therapy, please contact us to learn more, book a free consultation or request an appointment.
We are eager to work with you and support you in your journey to mental and emotional wellness.
