Online Counseling / TeleTherapy
Insight Northwest Counseling provides online counseling and psychiatry to those living throughout the state of Oregon. It is simple and accessible care that you can seek from wherever you are located.
What is online counseling?
Online counseling, also known as telehealth, is an easily accessible option for those who are hoping to seek help from a distance. Telehealth is an online video appointment with a mental health professional, where you will receive the same care as you would in person. You are able to attend these appointments from a smartphone or computer from wherever you prefer. All you need is the internet and a safe space that you feel provides you privacy and confidentiality.
In our current climate, online mental health and substance abuse and recovery treatment has been an incredibly useful and safe option. It has given people the opportunity to still get the help they need, at a distance that protects both their health and the health of their provider. Through times of uncertainty, online mental health treatment has become a popular and safe option. Beyond the preference of distance therapy for those concerned about health and safety through the pandemic, there are several other reasons people seek online counseling.
Seeking counseling, medication treatment, and psychiatry can be a very intimidating and nerve-wracking experience. It comes with a lot of uncertainties and fears, and often if you are already experiencing mental health challenges or suffering from substance abuse and addiction, those uncertainties can be a barrier for you seeking the help and care you so need. To be able to access these services online can often ease those worries and allow you to get that care. Being able to receive mental health treatment virtually gives you the freedom and comfort to find your path to wellness from wherever best suits you. For many people, online counseling and treatment is preferred.
Common Questions Regarding Online Counseling
Is it actually effective?
The answer to this is a resounding yes! It may be hard to believe that connecting with a counselor through a computer screen would actually be effective or even possible. There is a certain barrier that people worry will inhibit them from connecting to their caretaker on a sufficient level. And while that is a valid concern, it has been statistically proven that telehealth counseling is incredibly beneficial. Online counseling has been proven to be just as effective as in person counseling, especially when assisting a person who is suffering from depression and anxiety.
Is it safe and confidential?
Insight Northwest Counseling uses SimplePractice, a highly confidential, secure, HIPAA compliant, and accessible online video portal that protects you and your appointment. We understand that mental health care and services surrounding addiction and substance abuse are sensitive matters and we take that very seriously. We want our patients to feel protected, safe and comfortable to be vulnerable in their times of need. Seeking counseling for anything, no matter the reason, is sensitive and fragile. It should and will be handled with care and sensitivity. Through the online therapy platform that we have chosen to use, you can rest assured that you will be protected.
What are some reasons for online counseling?
People choose to utilize online counseling for a multitude of reasons. Of course, it has become frequently used through the pandemic for the safety and protection of each patient and their provider. Getting to receive care from a safe distance has been essential through the past several months. In addition to pandemic safety, there are several other reasons to seek online counseling. For some, it is scheduling and availability. Often, scheduling virtual appointments is more manageable than in person appointments.
Participating in telehealth appointments gives you the ability to schedule your appointments in between work hours, around your schedule as a busy parent, or any other opening in your schedule without needing to add time for driving to and from. For some, transportation, or lack thereof could be presenting issue or keeping you from seeking the help of counseling and treatment. Telehealth allows you to stay right where you are and eliminates the concern of finding the means to get to and from your appointments.
Can I do all of this virtually?
The process of finding mental health counseling and treatment, from the time of first discovering our practice to the telehealth appointment itself, can all be handled online. You are able to book a free 15-minute consultation through our website and then request and schedule an appointment through our online portal. After you book an appointment for online treatment, you will then have your online video appointments with one of our mental health professionals safely and confidentially.
Will insurance cover it?
It depends on your insurance provider and their policies, but usually insurance companies will provide coverage for online therapy services the way they do traditional counseling services. If your current health insurance plan covers mental health treatment and psychiatry, then it is highly likely that they will also cover those services virtually. If not, Insight Northwest Counseling has many options available to you. We offer our services as an out-of-network provider and you may be able to submit each session for reimbursement with your insurance provider. We also provide sliding scale options, to ensure that finances will not be a barrier between you and the help you deserve.
